I love a good frozen margarita, and this is the perfect easy margarita recipe to make your favorite frozen drink for Taco Tuesday, your next party, or just for fun!
This frozen margarita recipe is a base recipe with only 5 ingredients and you can add different fruits or flavors to create new drinks, as desired! I always see recipes for margs "on the rocks" but frozen is my favorite and finding the perfect ice to liquid ratio is so important and has taken me years! Ha!
This recipe makes four servings and is easy to double or triple based on your party size. Follow the recipe below, and check out the options at the end of the post for easy tweaks.
Ingredients
- 6 oz tequila (3/4 cup) I have used Dulce Vida's lime flavored tequila and regular - both delish
- 4 oz Cointreau or Triple Sec (1/2 cup)
- 6 oz FRESH lime juice (3/4 cup, about 4 limes + 2 more limes for garnish)
- 2 tbsp agave nectar
- 5 cups ice
makes four servings
Supplies
- high speed blender
- citrus press
- measuring cups
- margarita glasses
- coarse salt for rims
Note: Do NOT use that bottled fake lime juice business. Get out of here with that! I use a citrus press to get wayyy more juice than hand squeezing.
Instructions
Combine ingredients into a high speed blender.
Notes: I use my Ninja blender that came with a large pitcher and a personal size pitcher with one base. I normally use the small one from protein smoothies, and that works well for ice.
Life hack: if you only have a small personal blender, mix all of the liquid ingredients into a pitcher, then pour one fourth of the mixture into your personal size blender with one cup of ice to make one marg at a time.
Rims
Salted rims are the cutest and are a must...even if you don't like salted rims like me. Ha! Pour your salt onto a small plate. Fill another small plate with water. Dip rim of glass into water, then dip into salt, evenly coating the rim of the glass.
If you're feeling fancy, you can add spices to your salt to make your own salt mixture for a spicy marg.
I snagged this set of margarita glasses, and I have to say...everything tastes better in cute glassware! After you blend, add a lime wedge to your salted rim margarita glasses, then pour and serve. Of course, I always add a striped straw to keep things festive!
Marg Notes
I used the Dulce Vida Lime flavored tequila, which adds a little more sweetness (just the way I like it!) If you want sweeter margs and you're using regular tequila, just increase the agave to taste.
I use 5 cups of ice because I like my margs very slushy and not runny. If you want a little less stiff, only use 4 cups ice.
Of course, if you want stronger margs, just increase tequila to 1 cup or add a floater to each individual glass.
You can see the Dulce Vida Grapefruit Tequila in some of these photos, which you can also use for a fun flavored margarita twist, OR make a simple Paloma, using Tequila and Topo Chico - recipe here.
