Babymoon #1 in the books! We didn't originally plan this trip as a babymoon, so I say that because we might go on another trip! ;) Originally, this trip was Adam's Christmas gift (mine was a Smeg Fridge!) and he wanted to play golf with some bros in Cabo...
We had a great time on this trip - very relaxing! BUT it doesn't compare to our last trip to Cabo, so I want to explain why and give you a resort review. My main goal for this trip was to sit by the pool or on the beach, read fluff books, and enjoy all the delicious fresh food.
This resort was an all-inclusive food and drink resort. We've only stayed at one other all-inclusive resort, so perhaps it's just not our thing! I'm breaking down our experience below and will share the resort name at the end. This post isn't to bash anyone, but I know I'll get questions about where we stayed, and I'm not comfortable recommending it to you, so I wanted to share why.
The Room
Adam and I decide at the beginning of every trip that we are going to have a good time no matter what, and this trip was no exception.
So when we checked in and were escorted to our room, we just laughed when they gave us the wrong room. Two double beds instead of a king, not the same type of room, etc. No big deal, right? :) We waited while the bellman went to sort it out, then the front desk called the room to chat with us....turns out they were booked and the room we paid for online and confirmed at check-in wasn't available. (how is that possible?) They tried to tell us that we were going to have to stay in that room and then on our third night we would be able to switch into the room type that we originally paid for. Lol no. After a little back and forth, they said they would put us in a private villa (supposedly nicer) and we were like ok fine. So back we went to the lobby, grabbed a golf cart and headed down to another area of the resort. Surprise, it definitely wasn't a nicer room than the one we originally booked. But like I said, we are committed to having a good time no matter what. We didn't complain, just rolled with it. This blog post is my only form of complaining from the trip. Ha!
They told us we would have to switch rooms on the third night (ok, fine, whatever). The morning of the third night, Adam went to lobby to get us sorted out, find our new room, etc.; they told him that there was nothing in the computer about needing to switch, and assured him that we could just stay in our room that night again. Ok fine.
Later that day, we had a photoshoot with our favorite Cabo photographer (@ferdelarosa) and as we were about to start getting ready at 4pm, we get a call from the front desk that we have to switch rooms! What?! This is exactly what I didn't want to happen - having to stress and hustle right before this maternity photoshoot and not having time to get ready. Yep, sure enough, we had to switch rooms and it was a hot mess. I packed our whole room in 10 seconds while Adam came back from lobby again, then I had 20 minutes to get ready for our shoot in the new room and I went out there with wet hair. Not ideal! Thankfully the photos still turned out lol!
Strangely enough, something similar happened to me when I stayed with a few girlfriends yearsss ago at a different resort in Cabo. Is this just a bit that large resorts do to cover themselves when they oversell a room type?! What the heck.
The Pool & Beach
I liked that they had multiple pools available, closer or farther from the DJ, swim up bar, or kids pool, etc. The other guests were savages though, and apparently went out to the pool at 8am to put a towel and a bottle of sunscreen on a chair to "hold their spot." Ridiculous. The pool would be empty for hours but all of the "good seats" in the sun were taken. I'm that person who *will* move someone else's towel...
Food
As mentioned, this was an all-inclusive food and drink resort. At our last stay in Cabo, we had some of the best food! Adam still says it was the best sushi he's ever had, so we were disappointed when none of our meals really impressed us. The resort had multiple restaurants, which was nice, and no reservations required, but none of the menu items really wowed us. It's possible that we are a little bit of foodie snobs, and that's ok.
Ordering a cheeseburger at the pool is one of my top 10 favorite activities (If you remember my pool party days, you know this is true!), so I was bummed when I ordered it and it wasn't great.
Overall
Moral of the story....I guess you get what you pay for. Save for a few more months and then splurge on a nicer hotel. I recommend The Cape, which is where we stayed on our last trip to Cabo and we were obsessed with it. The property, the rooms, the service, all of the food and drinks we had, everything was perfection.
This resort was the Grand Fiesta Americana and I don't recommend it.
